Why choose neonatal circumcision?
Neonatal circumcision is a common surgical procedure performed on newborns, involving the removal of the foreskin, the skin covering the tip of the penis.
Some parents choose to have their child circumcised for various reasons, including religious or cultural beliefs, hygiene considerations, and potential health benefits, such as a reduced risk of urinary tract infections and certain sexually transmitted infections. The decision to have circumcision performed on a newborn is a personal one and should be made in consultation with healthcare professionals and based on family values.
The procedure is typically carried out under local anesthesia to minimize discomfort for the baby. It is relatively quick, and appropriate post-operative care is provided to promote a fast and complication-free recovery.
However, it is essential to highlight that neonatal circumcision is a surgical procedure and, as with any surgery, it carries some risks, although severe complications are rare.
To be eligible for neonatal circumcision, the child must be between 10 days and 3 months old, and weigh no more than 6 kg.
Before the appointment, it is necessary to fill out the registration form for neonatal circumcision within the first month of the child's life. You will need to bring the printed form on the day of the appointment.
In the coming days, a member of the administrative team will contact you to schedule a payment appointment and a circumcision appointment.
At Circoncision Mieux-Être, we use the Plastibell™ technique for infant circumcision due to its simplicity and speed. This method, performed under local anesthesia, is particularly suitable for more anxious or less cooperative children as it is easier and faster, and no bandaging is required.
The Plastibell™ involves the use of a transparent plastic ring with a handle that detaches at the end of the procedure.
This safe technique minimizes bleeding and does not require any stitches, as the glans is protected by the ring throughout the circumcision. The ring gradually detaches within 10 days following the procedure.
The Gomco technique is a method of neonatal circumcision that uses a tool called a "Gomco clamp" to remove the foreskin from the penis. The process begins with the placement of a metal cone under the foreskin, which serves to protect the glans. The foreskin is then secured to the cone using a circular component of the Gomco clamp. Once the foreskin is in place, a blade is used to cut it by following the contour of the cone, allowing for a clean and precise cut. The Gomco technique is known for offering good visibility and greater control during the procedure, thereby reducing the risk of complications. Although it might take a bit longer than other methods, it is often chosen for its tidy results and higher level of safety. This method reduces the risk of excessive bleeding and typically does not require stitches.
For children aged 0-3 months, the cost is:
-
400$ for the Plastibell technique (avec un médecin généraliste)
-
500$ for the Gomco technique (avec un médecin spécialiste)
-
0-3 months circumcision
